Post-operative scan
Case 1: Female, 36
The patient was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis Type 1 in childhood and experienced progressive proptosis (bulging) of the right eye. A dysplastic right sphenoid wing was revealed in combination with a large right temporal meningoencephalocele herniating into the eye socket.
The surgery to dissect the meningoencephalocele from the area around the eye socket and the sphenoid reconstruction with a ClearShield™ implant were performed jointly with neurosurgery and neuro-ophthalmology services.
The implant was positioned and secured with two titanium plates. Post-operative imaging showed successful reconstruction of the patient's eye socket and sphenoid wing. She is now two months out of surgery and is happy with her cosmetic result.
