One morning in 2009, the medical artists at OsteoSymbionics decided to try something new.
Breaking away from their work with complex craniofacial implants, they took several polymer skulls and transformed them into creative displays of artistic expression. Mardi Gras. Patriotic spirit. Sports themes.
Eerily beautiful, and perhaps a bit macabre, the art was dubbed SKULLpture™. Attendees at the 2009 annual meetings for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) were encouraged to vote for their favorite piece to be eligible to win it in a drawing. The artwork and posters of it were so popular that the program was repeated.
